So…. at a sacrifice of one type of another, right? Wrong; there is so much to brag about in this geographical area just 17 miles from downtown Portland.

It’s an easy commute if Portland is where you work. When friends ask, “Why choose Gresham, Oregon?” all you have to do is invite them to come visit. It honestly is far more charming than Portland, Oregon. 

Gresham has a lovely downtown area, one that rivals any other in the metro area. It is beautiful, warm and welcoming. There are enticing restaurants, unique consignment shops, bars, a super-cool beer place, countless beauty salons, a first-class healthy pet food store, bakeries, a huge discount variety store, cobbler, jeweler, furniture store, banks, doctors, insurance agencies.

There is Gresham City Park across from downtown with an off-leash dog area, a beautiful Japanese garden.. and all of this backs up to the famous Springwater Trail! There is yet another park on the east side of downtown with super-cool fountains that the kids love to play in during summer (like Salmon Springs, downtown Portland). This park is the location for Gresham’s wonderful Farmers Market during spring, summer and fall months.

Neighborhoods are varied. The most historic homes are of course in downtown and just up Roberts Ave to the south. Keep heading further south and you’ll find some new construction, and luxury homes. 

Then you run into Persimmon golf course, surrounded by many grand homes. Also up a hill south of downtown are countless neighborhoods built in the 70’s thru the 90’s on large lots with tons of trees and many trails hidden here and there. There are so many other nice places to live north of downtown

And then you get to Fairview! 

Fairview has its own Village, complete with quaint homes, condos, townhomes and even luxury apartments. They have their own post office and shops in the central village area. At the north end, you
run into Blue Lake Park recreational area: a 101 acre park including many picnic areas, sports fields a sandy swimming beach, boating, and fishing. As you get into Fairview, you are close to I-84 for an easy
commute; you are also upon the banks of the Columbia, with its breath-taking views. Enjoy the paved walking/biking path along the banks.

Head just east of Fairview and you’re in Troutdale, gateway to the Columbia River Gorge, home of Mt. Hood Community College, surrounded by numerous state parks, including the Sandy Delta with 1000 acres off leash park where you can take your doggies. You’ve got neighborhoods of all kinds and plenty of amenities.

The Old Columbia River Hwy section, just east of 257th is home to restaurants, bars and shops. Stay on the highway heading east and find yourself in some beautiful country for taking a drive or bike ride to many breathtaking viewpoints in the Columbia River Gorge, including the famous Vista House.
