I’m a realtor and this is how I make my living, but I don’t blame you one bit. I think that commissions have been way too high for way too long, especially as home prices continue to rise. Yes, I have to pay a LOT of fees every year: to the NAR, OAR, WAR, PMAR, RMLS, the city of Portland, self -employment tax, continuing education, website maintenance and optimization fees, and countless other costs of conducting and staying in business. It’s expensive to be a realtor whether you make sales or not.
What I have learned is that offering a better-than-competitive price is what home sellers want. They don’t want tricks or deceptive promises. Several other websites offer to sell for a low fee or a flat fee, but there is always a catch. Sellers don’t want to keep listening or reading on further into your website or contract to see that they really aren’t getting much of anything for their money. It looks impressive to list some of the things a seller will get, until you realize that many of these things happen automatically once your property is listed on the RMLS and other items, a monkey could do.
I am not here in an effort to ‘make a killing’ in real estate. I’m simply looking to stay relevant and stay in business for the long term; that’s it. I know the Portland metro area extremely well from my 15 years in real estate and another 15+ years prior owning a local catering business. I have sold many properties in the Gorge (both sides of the river).

Finding a realtor who genuinely cares about her clients and will do everything within her power to make her client’s selling experience a pleasant one is another wonderful thing to find. The climate for buyers is so strong with money being almost FREE, but there are not enough properties on the market to satisfy demand.
